The Painting Conundrum

Image
Have you ever had a discussion in your marriage hang on for years and years, or is it only me.  This painting and sanding thing has always been one of those things.  49 years ago or so, I was painting the kitchen cupboards in a farm house we had bought, and of course had taken them off, removed all the hardware and sanded them --to my specks.---  Well Gary came home, and not good enough, he said.  So I sanded them again, and again, and finally just left the cupboards with no doors.  About a month later his mother came over one week, remember I was a fairly new bride, and really wasn't going to put up doors that my DH (dear husband) didn't approve of, anyway his mom came over and being of the old school thought my cupboards without doors was ridiculous.  So she said, just put some paint on them and be done with it.  Which we did.  They looked just fine, no one complained and if they did I could always say that I was following his moms ...

100 things to do on a boat.

Image
Found this on "women who sail" and thought it was really great. Figure I should save this in case I ever get bored. 100 Things to Do on a Boat Posted on   January 15, 2015   by   Jeffrey Margaret and I are always amazed by how many people post on CruisersForum, Liveaboard Cruisers, and other online venues asking how people keep from getting bored while at anchor or on a long passage. When aboard, we are always hunting for more time, not more things to fill our time with. So, we decided to put together a list of one hundred things to do while on a boat. For the most part, we avoided anything that involved the internet or leaving the vessel, attempting to stay true to the original queries that spawned this list. At first, we thought a list of a hundred things might be a little ambitious, but we brainstormed it quickly enough that we are sure you could add another hundred easily. Please add your favorite activities in the comments below! clean out refrigerato...

The 5 Worst foods for your Joints

Image
Really found this info quite useful.  Have found that a number of my friends are having problems with joint pain, and this seems to sum up some misconceptions.   Reducing these foods from your diet and adding a great supplement like Shaklee's Vitalizer will help keep you active a lot longer. Shall talk about coconut oil next time, because it is my new "magic bullet". Every day, millions of people have a hard time exercising because of shoulder, knee, back and elbow pain. What most people -- and even most doctors -- don't know   is that one of the major causes of pain is actually... food. Here’s what you should focus on removing from your diet if you want to double your recovery process and get pain-free faster than with j...

Shaklee 180™ Healthy Competition Winners: January 2014

Alzeimers, and Puerto Escondido, a ghost town.

Where to start.  So much has happened in the last year that I am at a loss for a starting point.  But shall share a really interesting Utube video, that might interest anyone with an interest in Alzeimers. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=ZZOR-Qd3QSg Paulette sent this to me today and I just had to share it. We are back in Baja for a couple of weeks and enjoying it a lot!  Just had a real high when we drove in and saw all the beautiful clear water, and the sun, and our boat floating just where it should be.  Has been fun getting it all cleaned up, the bad storm that they had early in March left parts of leaves and debris on the decks, and sand and dust everywhere down below, but what the hay, we have lots of time to clean it up.  Spent the morning sitting in the cockpit  drinking coffee  amid all the boxes and bags that we had dragged out of the truck last night.  And I refused to feel guilty about it! We are sorry to see that Puerto E...

My Shaklee 180 program success

Yowzer....   I reached my first goal with the Shaklee 180 program and a week ahead of schedule, I am so thrilled. I really have to give credit to the program.  Having to keep a food and exercise diet have really kept me on target.  I get to feeling guilty if I can't actually write something in the exercise column.  And they have made it very easy to keep track of food.  Working from Mexico, I find sometimes I have to imagine which kind of cheese I have had, but it isn't really that hard since I pretty well know my cheeses.  But a lot of the brands are different, but it has worked out okay. I know that this is the first of many goals, because I have about 80 lbs to go, (sorry I don't know that in kilos, old school, you know). So this is going to be a long term thing, especially when you add age into the factor.  Wish I was 40 but nothing that I know will change my age, altho, I have been faithfully taking my Vivix, so that should help. Have a...

Cellular Aging

Image
http://strattons.myshaklee.com Cellular Aging Aging is a fact of life, and we all want to look and feel great for as long as possible. But if you’ve ever been to a school reunion, you might have noticed something interesting: some of your classmates look older than others. Why is there such a difference in the rate that people age? What scientists have discovered is that it all starts inside our cells. For most of us, aging means loss of muscle strength, bone density, lung function, and memory, and our risk for conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dementia, and cancer all increase. When you graph the incidence of disease versus age, you’ll see something rather striking. Many chronic disease conditions are rare when we’re young, but their incidence begins to increase around age 50. To scientists who study aging, this upsurge around the half-century mark suggests that there might be a common reason underlying the onset of these age-related diseases – and that m...

This is a picture, taken a month before I started on the Shaklee 180.  Another month and I will get another 90 day photo. Have spent the summer by myself here in the Escondido Area. Gary has been up in Canada, and trucking, you can see how busy I have been. Unfortunately, I have bunch of stuff to get done before I am ready to head for Canada in Nov. Started to do some sanding so I can oil the teak in the cockpit.  Once I start something, it works on my guilt, looking at it, so then I have to finish the job. Have to post some menu's in the following weeks.  Have eaten a lot more healthy food, especially more  beans and veggies.  Have been using some of the recipes from the Mediteranean Diet, and I really like them.  Since this is going to be a long term project, probably at least a year, I think I need to change my habits. So I have been swimming at least 1/2 hour to 1 hour a day, and I can definitely feel it in my muscles.  Can't yet do a...

A plateau, oh no!

Just got off the scale, and still no movement!  What a disappointment.  The first 10 came off really fast, and now just stagnant. Guess I have to change something, maybe I need to increase my exercise, because I must admit that I have slowed down and even missed days.  If You have never had to loose weight, or never new anyone who had to loose weight, this blog post is not for you, because I am going to hit some of the points of weight loss that I have researched since I have been on the Shaklee 180 turnaround program. Here are a few things that will go right when you loose weight. a) Migraines--57% reduces b) Depression--55% resolved c) Pseudotumor Cerebri--96% resolved  d) Obstruction, sleep Apnea--74-98% resolved e) Asthma--82% improved or resolved f) Non-Alcoholic Fatty liver Disease--90% improved steatosis,37% resolution of inflammation, 20% resolution of fibrosis g) Cardiovascular Disease--82% risk reduction h) Hypertension--52-02% ...

Coming down from Santa Rosalia\

Image
Coming down the coast from Santa Rosalia in Dec. Hannah came with us for the ride , and we enjoyed the experience of a teenager on board again. Altho we had no cell service or internet for a few days. Back in La Paz, and it has been cool this winter, finally warmed up to the 80's again this week, and hopefully spring has come at last. We have had FM3's for the past few years so we didn't have to rush back and forth every 6 months to renew ou r visas, but they changed the rule s this January and are no longer doing that, now we can either apply for "temporary immigration" or "permanent immigration" which means more paper work.  So we are presently awaiting our paper work which has gone to Mexico City with at least 1,000,000 other ones, so altho we had planned on going to El Savador with the rally this year, it is not looking too good right now.  We have don e everything so far, pictures, bank statements, fingerprints etc etc, and things are "i...

Santa Rosalia

As usual time passes and the summer is here, Sophie has settled into boating really well. She loves beaches and swimming, and afternoons laying on the deck in the shade.  The extra walking has been great for me, I am not personally motivated to take long walks but with Sophie looking like she wants a walk, she practically brings me her leash, we have been able to see more beaches.  We have started to take her snorkelling, and only had one minor mishap. We anchored the dinghy, Gary swam away, and I was a bit behind, so right after I slid into the water, Sophie decided she didn't want to be left behind, so she leapt right on top of me.  OUCH!  She gets lots of exercise while we snorkel because she keeps trying to round us up together, so she is back and forth a lot. Someone suggested we should get her some goggles, wouldn't that be just sooooo cute. This week we are in Santa Rosalia, getting the boat put away for the summer while we head up to Canada to see the kid...
